The company’s name recognises the caravel style of ship developed by the master seafarers of Portugal in the 15th century. This small, sleek craft with its innovative hull design and highly efficient sails was very fast and maneuverable.
The Portuguese used caravels in their ocean-going trade and exploration to amass significant national wealth, despite competition from much larger ships and nations.
